Furikake Party Chex Mix



It is no secret that I am a big snack gal. It is also no secret that I love a really good party mix. I love all of the different flavors, textures, and shapes. You get to mix and match different pieces and it makes snacking even more satisfying than it already is. Am I right or am I right?!


So, when it came to this party chex mix I wanted to create a unique chex mix by incorporating Asian flavors and unique snack pieces such as a variety of rice crackers and chow mein noodles with the traditional chex squares, pretzels and brown rye chips. Plus I also wanted a healthy item in there so naturally I threw in some raw almonds. I then came across this super fun Furikake seasoning from Trader Joe’s to be the main attraction.


What is Furikake? Great question! Furikake seasoning is Japanese seasoning made up of nori (black seaweed), sesame seeds, salts, kelp powder. It is multi-purpose seasoning and can be used on a variety of items to enhance the flavor such as white rice, fish, eggs, etc. It is also works as a great garnish!


The flavoring is so uniquely bold yet sweet I wanted to create a whole Chex mix flavor with it and I am SO happy I did. If you are looking for a killer snack recipe this season, look no further! Allow me to introduce to you my Furikake Party Chex Mix! It is the perfect amount of salty, sweet and nutty. It will be the most irresistible batch you’ve ever tried and trust me once you start, you will not be able to stop! Speaking from experience as my Mom and I sit here devouring the whole batch while I write this. Scroll down to see the recipe, seasoning I used and all of the different pieces I incorporated. Batch will last about 1-2 weeks. INGREDIENTS:

6 cups Rice Chex

5 cups Pretzel twists

2 cups Variety rice crackers (I used the lotus food brand - green bag)

2 cups Whole raw almonds

1 cup Brown rye chips

2 cups Chow mein noodles

1 cup plant based or regular unsalted butter (2 sticks)

4-5 TBSP low sodium soy sauce

2 TBSP vegetable oil

3 and 1/2 TBSP sugar

2 TSP sesame oil

1.9 oz jar of furikake seasoning (from Trader Joe’s)

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Pre heat oven to 225 degrees and line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper. Spray with non-stick spray. Set aside.

  2. Measure out rice chex, pretzel twists, variety rice crackers, whole raw almonds, brown rye chips and chow mein noodles. Mix everything together in a large bow. When I say large I mean LARGE. It will be a lot. You can also once mixed, just separate them in two bowls and have two batches.

  3. In a sauce pan over low heat, heat plant based butter. Once fully melted and bubbling, add soy sauce, vegetable oil, sugar and sesame oil. Whisk and mix well.

  4. Remove from heat, let cool for 1-2 minutes and pour over chex mix. Mix well with a spoon to ensure all pieces are covered as best as you can.

  5. Once chex mix is full coated pour furikake seasoning over and mix again to ensure it is well covered.

  6. Pour seasoned mixture over your 2 prepared baking sheets. Bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes. Make sure you are mixing, turning and checking on it every 5 minutes. Also, make sure they do not burn!

  7. Remove from heat and let cool. Once cooled keep in an air tight sealed container for 1-2 weeks or serve in mason jars or cute mini serving vessels.
