Buffalo Jackfruit Dip with Homemade Pita Chips

Jackfruit has become a big food trend and is in very high demand these days. It is a fruit that comes from Asia and Africa. It is a healthy meat replacement and is loved by everyone including: vegetarians, vegans and even meat lovers cannot get enough!

Even though this item is technically a fruit and grown in tropical environments, it has the consistency like meat such as chicken, pork or beef. This is what makes it so unique! So, when it is shredded, tossed with sauce and seasonings and cooked no one can ever tell the difference! People forget that they aren’t even eating meat. It is the perfect healthier alternative.

The great thing about jackfruit is that is is low in fat, sodium and carbohydrates. However, it does not have that high protein source that you can get from consuming actual meat.

I recently did a Coconut Shrimp 2 Ways recipe to appeal to people who prefer to be healthier as well as those who do not have a preference. This recipe is similar to that and can go both ways as well. I did not make them both ways this time, however I want to touch on the method I took with this one.

I wanted to make this recipe healthier by incorporating greek yogurt as opposed to cream cheese. With greek yogurt the flavor can tend to be a little sour and tart, even when mixed with sauces and seasonings. So, for those of you that prefer the healthier method, I would take the tart greek yogurt over the cream cheese. If there are those of you that do not have a preference I would stick with the cream cheese to have more of a savory taste.

Can I do this in a slow cooker instead of the oven?
