Loaded BLT Jicama Fries

Jicama is a starchy root vegetable and is a great source of fiber and antioxidants. They are also slightly sweet and low in sugar. It has a similar texture to a crisp pear or water chestnut. But, when they are seasoned and baked until golden brown, they become crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. They are pure perfection. Throw some savory bacon, crisp lettuce, juicy tomato and tangy ranch on top and it will be your healthyish foodie dream come true.

There are two things that I absolutely love: A well made BLT sandwich with fries on the side of course and any type of fry generally speaking. Regular french fries, sweet potato fries, waffle fries, curly fries, shoe string fries…you name it. Since I love both so much I combined your typical BLT sandwich with fries on the side into one dish and made them healthier!

In my opinion, fries in general make for a great snack, side dish or appetizer. So, these loaded BLT jicama fries are a great alternative for any meal when you want to indulge, but also be healthy and not have a full sandwich with a side. Jicama fries are great on their own with a simple dipping sauce, but they are EVEN BETTER when they are loaded with all of these toppings and fixins.

You can easily purchase jicama pre-cut at your local grocery store such as Whole Foods, Mariano's or Jewel. If you cannot find them pre-cut they do have the vegetable as a whole and you can peel and cut them yourself as well.

Can I do this in a slow cooker instead of the oven?
